We completed our highly anticipated Dundee Kiltwalk on a very sunny Sunday 17th August, raising £185 for our chosen charities in the process.
Our day started with a train to Broughty Ferry, one stop after Dundee, and a short walk to Castle Green for an 11:30 start. We were greeted by a pipe band, water stands and a fun warm-up at the start line. Other walkers had brought their children and their dogs, with others supporting wheelchair users along the route.
With spirits high and a beautiful view of the River Tay and the North Sea further in the distance, we set off for our 4.3 mile Wee Wander. Following National Cycle Route 1, we passed picturesque cottages and sailing clubs with residents cheering us on. We chatted with some of the 1,600 other wee wanderers supporting various charities including Simba Charity, Cash for Kids, and Oliver’s Army. After a quick snack break, we passed important industrial sites including Dundee Port. As we got closer to Slessor Gardens in Dundee town centre, we passed the lovely City Quay and the HMS Unicorn docked nearby.
The walk was very accessible but still challenging, especially in the hot weather, so we were relieved the finish line came into view. Slessor Gardens was buzzing with music, traditional Scottish dancing and a well-earned meal for every walker. After a quick Cèilidh, we caught the train back to Glasgow feeling very proud to be part of such a worthy cause and eager to explore more of Dundee.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to another Kiltwalk next year.
Best,
Antonia and Diana
