This year, Global Connects came together to support disadvantaged families by collecting donations for Sunshine Wishes Children’s Charity’s annual Christmas drive. We collected new toys, good quality clothes, hygiene supplies and shelf-stable food to help children living with serious or life-shortening illnesses or who have a mental or physical disabilities to be included this Christmas. Often, families supporting these vulnerable children are doing so on very low incomes and struggle to afford the basics. Action For Children reports that 32% of children in Glasgow are growing up in poverty. We thought it was important to help the most vulnerable to experience a Christmas full of joy with more than just the most essential items at home.

Staff came to our offices on 6 December in Christmas jumpers to kick off festive celebrations and fundraising. Senior Translation Project Manager, Mollie McVey, and one of our Junior Project Managers donated baked goods for staff and students at Global Connects and Glasgow School of English to enjoy. Alongside the items donated, we raised £104.00 – not least because of a perfect lemon drizzle!

Linda Ford, SWCC General Manager, came to pick up donations on 12 December and was very grateful for our efforts. We look forward to continuing our support  with donations of good quality adults’ clothes and continued financial support next year.

If you are able to, please consider supporting SWCC in the vital work they do in aiding vulnerable families with children living with serious illness or disability. Support includes essential items, bill payments, identifying vulnerabilities, new appliances, respite breaks and more.

Global Connects is proud to support local charities, including SEMSA and Glasgow Humane Society.
