What is the Young Person’s Guarantee?
The Young Person’s Guarantee (YPG) is an initiative to support young people in becoming ready for the world of work. It provides employers with opportunities to be champions for young people through providing real-world insights into building careers, supporting young people to gain key skills and developing the industry-relevance of the curriculum.
Why have we pledged to support the Young Person’s Guarantee?
We believe that inspiring young people and developing their skills is crucial to building strong communities within Scotland and ensuring young people reach their full potential. By providing opportunities for young people to connect with the world of work, we are helping them to gain the confidence to build their own futures. Global Connects is proud to lead from the front on what matters in our diverse economy and multilingual communities.
How have you kicked off your pledge to the Young Person’s Guarantee?
Global Connects has long offered work experience placements to students studying translation and interpreting degrees at university. Students and staff alike have had a lot of success with our placements, teaching young people how to work in fast-paced office environments with changing priorities and a range of internal and external stakeholders. We also offer a unique insight into the translation industry shining a light on real-world face-to-face interpreting, interpreting booking coordination, project management and document translation.
We are currently running two placements at our Hope Street office for two University of Strathclyde students studying BA Spanish and French and will have another two students join us in January 2025, with other placements planned later in 2025. With a head start in the translation industry, we’re excited to see all the places that our placements can take local students.
